Santa Rosa Deck Project

This deck expansion in Santa Rosa had a mature tree standing right where the new section needed to go. Instead of removing it, we framed the deck around the trunk, working the layout and joists to give the tree room to keep growing without fighting the structure. The decking is wood, cut and fit board by board around the trunk. For the railing, we're installing Wild Hog wire mesh panels set in metal frames — a cleaner look than standard balusters, and one that keeps sightlines open across the yard. Framing lumber, a chainsaw for trimming boards to fit the tree, and hand tools are staged on site as the crew works through the layout. Building around a living tree takes more planning than a straight rectangular deck. Post locations, joist spans, and board cuts all get adjusted to leave clearance for the trunk now and room for it to thicken over time. The project is currently in progress, with framing and railing installation underway.
