The build

Two-Tone Composite Deck Build

This Sonoma County deck started with a client render and ended as a finished, low-profile composite deck built to match it board for board. We used TimberTech composite decking throughout, running a darker border around the perimeter to frame a lighter field in the center — a picture-frame detail that takes more layout work than a straight run, but gives the whole deck a finished, intentional look instead of a flat expanse of boards. The deck sits low to the ground, with a single wide step down to the gravel yard. Keeping the profile low meant careful attention to substructure and drainage so the deck reads clean against the house without feeling like an afterthought bolted on. Composite decking holds up against Sonoma County's sun and seasonal rain without the yearly sanding and staining wood decks demand. For a client working from a design in their head, matching that vision in real materials — and adding the border and step details that make it feel custom — is the job we like doing.
