Sonoma Fence & Railing Project

This Sonoma backyard started as a bare, gravelly lot with no structure and no shade. We rebuilt it from the ground up with redwood fencing and hog-wire panels, framed by a sliding barn-style gate that ties into a redwood carport structure. The result reads rustic and intentional, built for a wine country property, not a subdivision. Inside the fence line, we shaped a circular lawn area bordered by steel edging, with decomposed granite covering the rest of the yard. Boulders and ornamental grasses break up the open ground, and wine barrel planters add a detail that fits the property without overdoing it. A stone fire pit sits off the lawn as the gathering point, with string lights strung overhead for evening use. Every material here earns its place. Redwood for the fencing and gate holds up to North Bay weather and ages well. Hog-wire panels let light and air through instead of walling the yard off completely. Decomposed granite means less maintenance than a full hardscape, and the sod gives the yard a usable green center. Six years on, this project still holds up as a good example of what a full outdoor rebuild can do for a Sonoma property that had nothing to work with at the start.
