Custom deck building
in Sonoma County.
Redwood, composite and Trex decks — new builds and full replacements — built by our own crew for the way Sonoma County weather actually treats a deck. The structure underneath is built to the same standard as the surface you walk on.

A few details is all we need to schedule a site visit and put a real number in front of you.
Decks we have built here.
Every project below is a real Soulié build in Sonoma County, photographed on site.
One crew. One standard.
Soulié Construction is a licensed general contractor, not a deck-only outfit that subcontracts the structural work. The crew that frames your deck is the crew that finishes it.
That matters most where you cannot see it. Most decks fail at the framing, the ledger connection and the fasteners — long before the boards wear out. We build that part first and we build it properly.
Because we also do framing, concrete and outdoor living work, a deck that needs footings poured, a patio tied in or a pergola built overhead does not need a second contractor scheduled around ours.
Built in the material that fits.
Redwood
The classic Sonoma deck. Naturally rot-resistant, warm underfoot, and refinishable for decades. We build in clear and con-heart redwood.
Composite & Trex
Capped composite boards for homeowners who want the weekend back. No sanding, no sealing — we have built full Trex platforms up to 1,900 square feet.
Tigerwood & hardwoods
Dense tropical hardwoods for high-wear surfaces and premium platforms, used on their own or as an accent against redwood.
How a Soulié deck comes together.
- Step 1Consultation
We walk the site with you, take measurements, and talk through how you actually want to use the space.
- Step 2Design & planning
Layout, elevations and material selection — so you can see the deck before anyone orders lumber.
- Step 3Materials
You choose the decking and railing. We specify the structure underneath: footings, framing, hardware and flashing.
- Step 4Construction
Our own crew builds it. Site kept clean, progress photographed, and you know who is on your property each day.
- Step 5Final walkthrough
We walk the finished deck together, correct anything on the list, and hand it over.

Deck building in Sonoma County — answered.
How much does it cost to build a deck in Sonoma County?
Cost depends far more on the structure than the surface — height off grade, footing depth, stairs, and railing type move the number more than the decking material does. We give you a line-item estimate after walking the site, so you can see what each part of the deck costs and adjust scope before anything is ordered.
What deck materials work well in Sonoma County?
Redwood and capped composite are both well suited to the local climate. Redwood handles the dry summers and is refinishable; composite handles year-round exposure with no sanding or sealing. We build in both, along with Tigerwood and other hardwoods, and we will walk you through the trade-offs for your specific exposure.
How long does deck construction take?
It depends on size, height and whether we are demolishing an existing structure first. We give you a schedule with the estimate and tell you which parts of it depend on the permit and inspection timeline in your jurisdiction.
Do I need a permit for a deck in Sonoma County?
Permit requirements vary by jurisdiction — the City of Santa Rosa, the County, and each incorporated city set their own thresholds, and they change. Rather than guess, we confirm the requirement with the building department that has jurisdiction over your address, and we handle the submittal and inspections when a permit is required.
Should I choose redwood or composite decking?
It usually comes down to maintenance appetite. Redwood rewards periodic cleaning and refinishing with a look composite cannot match. Composite asks almost nothing of you and carries a long manufacturer warranty. Neither is the wrong answer — we help you pick based on your sun exposure, budget and how much upkeep you actually want.
Can an existing deck be rebuilt instead of replaced?
Sometimes. If the framing, footings and ledger connection are sound, re-decking the surface is a legitimate option. Often they are not — most older decks fail below the boards, at the framing and the ledger. We inspect the substructure first and tell you honestly which one you are looking at.
Do you build decks with pergolas, hot tubs or outdoor kitchens?
Yes. Attached pergolas, hot tub decks and decks that tie into patios and outdoor living space are a regular part of our deck work — those loads and utility runs need to be planned into the framing from the start, not added afterwards.
