Petaluma Deck Project

This Petaluma project pairs a redwood deck with an attached pergola, framed and fastened with Simpson hardware throughout. The redwood boards are freshly finished, giving the whole structure that deep reddish glow before the sun and weather start doing their work on it. The deck isn't railed yet. Once the boards are locked down, we're installing a Wild Hog cable railing system with hog tracks, powder coated black to match the black Simpson hardware already up on the pergola posts. That detail matters more than people think — matching the railing hardware to the structural hardware ties the whole build together instead of looking like two separate projects bolted side by side. Redwood holds up well in Sonoma County's climate and takes stain evenly, which is part of why we keep specifying it for decks in this area. Pergola posts give the space defined structure now and shade coverage later if the homeowner adds a cover. We'll post finished photos once the cable rail goes in and the whole thing is buttoned up.
