Santa Rosa Remodel Project

This Santa Rosa gas fireplace remodel started at the studs. We stripped the old raised mantel down completely and reframed the entire chase to make room for a linear gas fireplace insert. The hearth floor got patched where the old base used to sit, and we ran all new ducting to support the updated unit. Above the firebox, a slab of gray quartzite runs floor to ceiling, giving the wall a clean, contemporary face. Getting the trim to sit flush against the slab took custom sheet metal fabrication — off-the-shelf trim wasn't going to cut it against that kind of stone. We also routed wire and cable through the wall so the mounted TV above the fireplace has no visible cords. The result is a fireplace wall that reads as one continuous surface, fire and screen both, with none of the boxy mantel or exposed wiring the old setup had. It's the kind of remodel where the work you don't see — reframing, ducting, wire routing — is what makes the finish look effortless.
