Sebastopol Deck Project

This Sebastopol property called for a deck that could handle a sloped hillside site without feeling like an afterthought. We built it multi-level, with built-in stairs tying each tier together and running the full run of the hillside grade. Tigerwood decking covers every surface, chosen for its density and color, and it holds up outdoors better than most domestic species. Railings are wood-framed with wire mesh infill, a hog wire look that keeps sightlines open across the grass and trees below. Wood posts anchor the structure and carry the same clean lines through the stairs and landings. A wood privacy fence section ties into one end of the deck, giving the owners a break from open sightlines where they want it. The project is a good example of what a multi-level deck build looks like when the terrain isn't flat. Framing, stairs, decking, and railing all had to work together across changes in elevation, and the tigerwood ties it into one continuous surface. This is finish-stage work on a rural Sonoma County property, and it shows what's possible when a deck is built to match the land it sits on rather than fight it.
